Ammo Still SOLD out!

This is getting ridiculous. Millions of rounds are manufactured each day and across America they are being sold extremely quickly. In the past retail stores dealt with a slow turn over of ammunition, at least a week or two, now it can't seem to stay on the shelves for more than a couple hours! Olin Corp (Winchester) is investing $110 millions in its manufacturing facilities across the board and Remington is purchasing a new factory. Hopefully this will help supply at least meet demand and hopefully over saturate the market! If manufactures produce too much we may even see ammunition go back on sale again at Cabellas or Bass Pro. At least walmart will actually have ammo in stock at their "everyday low prices". What are your thoughts on the great ammo shortage of 2009- Now?

10-22 Tactical Project and Thank You To Our Sponsors

We would like to thank our tactical 10-22 project sponsors:

  • Sandstorm Rifle Slings

  • Mounting Solutions Plus

  • CDM Gear

This month is the one year anniversary of the Tactical 10-22 Project. The goal was to create a rifle that looks like a standard .223 AR (Armalite) but in reality shoots cheap bulk .22LR ammo. We decided to go with a Ruger 10-22 platform and chose the target model for the factory improved receiver that is tighter than the standard model and prevents the use of CCI Stinger rounds with slightly longer casings. However it allows the rifle to function with much lower velocity ammo and is still functional enough to deal with inconsistent ammo. The target trigger is also significantly lighter and the 20 inch factory bull barrel is a huge plus. We were able to sell the laminate factory stock for more than we paid for the Pro-mag Archangel 5.56 stock.

You'll notice the biggest customization is the new 10-22 Nomad/Marauder magazines! Promag specifically states that they are not compatible with this stock however you can shave down the cosmetic plastic and they work great. I would say they are a significant improvement over the factory 10 round rotary magazine and 25 round banana magazines widely available from Bulter Creek.

The grip pod has paid for itself every time this rifle goes to the range. You can set the rifle down without having it lean against a dirty shooting bench or damaging other accesories. The legs are reinforced and military surplus versions are available on eBay.  Lastly the scope system is unique. A Nikon rimfire scope is dialed in for 50 yards and can be easily adjusted up to 100 yard shots while a NC star reddot is mounted at a 45 degree offset angle. Merely tilting the rifle allows you to shoot acuratly at different distances.

OTF knives

Out the Front Knives are great if they are legal to carry where you live. Benchmade makes high quality double action OTFs for $200-$350. Just look at the Infidel, you get an aluminum grip, dagger blade, and bragging rights.

However most OTF knives can not even penetrate a piece of paper. Philosophy of use is very subjective. If you want an Otf just to play with look at the Taiwan made Lightning. It is not a utility knife or practical but it is still a decent OTF to enjoy.

If your on a budget don't even look at microtech. They are great but often cost as much as a new mid grade handgun or tons of ammo.

Guns and Ammo Investing 101

If you buy a single box of 9mm for $10 today, that same box will cost you $11-$12 next year. This is called inflation and buying ammo now is a hedge against inflation. If you would have put that $10 in a savings account your interest would be >.01% while ammunition would have paid off 10-20% annually.

Ammunition prices tend to change quarterly as retailers such as walmart and cabellas renegotiate contracts/quantity. For the past 2 years Federal 9mm has been increasing by around .50 every 2 quarters or a $1 annually. This could be because of our current military engagements globally, price of copper & brass, also quantitative easing (our money is worth less because more is available).

Ammo surpasses inflation so it is great avenue to secure your wealth. Also it is a sellers’ market so you might be able to liquidate and secure your gains rather quickly if you are in need of money to pay the bills.
Diversification is important, ammo is like gold and does not pay dividends. If you invest in the stock market you are a partial owner of a corporation and are entitled to their quarterly profits. Telecom stocks are very generous in this aspect.

The SP 500 index fund is a collection of stocks that make up the different sectors of our economy. This year it is up almost 20%. If you had invested $1,000 you’d have an extra $200. 20% gains are far from the norm and normally gains and losses are averaged over the years.

If I had $1,000 to play with I would purchase a reliable 9mm handgun and stock up ammunition. Possibly even some high capacity magazines, Glock Factory 33 round magazines at $40 a piece is a steal. I firmly believe we have missed the opportunity to buy cheap .223/5.56 ammunition and assault rifles are not going to be on sale for a while. Anything over $1,000 I would put in the market. Ammunition is a hedge and as illustrated earlier does not pay off in the long run in the same way stocks do.

Automatic weapons are going for a premium ever since they stopped production for civilian sales. I can easily see class 3 items going off the market for a while because of fear mongering. Fully automatic, suppressed, submachines guns sound pretty scary to the politicians in Washington and defending them will not be popular with their constituents. Right now Republicans are trying to focus on economic issues and giving liberals jurisdiction over “social issues”.

Self Defense (7rd Magazine Limit)

If you watch the video closely the man has a HK USP Compact. Federally issued to many government agents, the magazines are very common and hold 13rds. You could never have to settle for a 7rd magazine especially in 9mm.

Next, you should always have a
back up gun or spare magazine. I love HK and would trust it to run 100%. After the man killed the guy at the door he should have quickly switched magazines and gotten his family into a locked room.

This man would have died anyways because he hesitated, both criminals had guns aimed at him and he should have shot much quicker. Empty the magazine and reload!

Lastly, I can not stress the importance of  teaching your family some firearms safety. This man was sexist and did not trust his wife/daughters with guns. That mistake cost him his life. There is a saying that "God created all men, and Samuel colt made them equal". The old adage is true considering a man or woman with a handgun would have been almost equally beneficial in this situation. The man hesitated, reacted slowly, and closed his eyes when he shot. I would bet, that properly trained, one of the women in the house could have performed much better.
